January 19 1995 Council 12113 is established

Met Director of Immigration, Steven Farquharson to establish our Council and LULAC’s presence in MA.

Interview at La Hora del Cafe Program on local radio station on 1330 AM. This is an open line one hour show dedicated to our Naturalization and Voter Registration Drive.

Appeared with Director of Immigration and Naturalization, Steven Farquharson, at Magazine Colombiano, 1600 AM on the radio, and hour a half open line show on Naturalization.

Appeared on La Continental, 1150 AM on the radio, a half hour live show on Voter Registration.

Interview with El Mundo and La Semana Spanish language newspapers, on the Council’s efforts and objectives.

Contacted both Governor William Weld and Mayor Thomas Menino’s office to obtain Proclamation for the celebration of LULAC’s week (successfully task accomplished)

Naturalization and Voter Registration Fund-raiser was held at the Park Plaza Hotel, May 19,1995 where some $18,000 were raised.

Boston Elections Commissioner Abe Hantout agreed to a partnership with our Council, which translate into logistical support and matching funds for our Naturalization and Voter Registration efforts during the 1995 summer (16 youth were hired and 4 supervisors for the duration of the summer

Director of Puerto Rico Governor’s regional Office in Massachusetts recognized our Council President for the Naturalization and Voter Registration effort and three of our youth for their outstanding work

Represented LULAC at Sociedad Latina Anniversary Boston Harbor Cruise

Council 12113 sponsored the participation of four young women to the Youth Convention in Washington DC

Attended and participated in the September 1995 National Executive Board Meeting held at the Boston Park Plaza (site of the 1996 National Convention) in Boston, Massachusetts.

Represented LULAC at local Spanish newspaper El Mundo at their Boston Harbor Cruise.

Started process for a TELETHON in partnership with Boston Election Department and the office of the Governor of Puerto Rico’s in Boston.

Education and Scholarship effort fund- raiser to be held at Boston Park Plaza November 19,1995

Mayor Thomas M. Menino presented council President with a recognition for her efforts with Latino community in Boston

Attended National Executive Board October 1995 in Washington DC

Fully participating in the effort to have a very successful National Convention in Boston with several of our council member participating associate Chairs

Instrumental in the effort to help CUENCAVISION WCEA to remain on the air Cablevision was trying to get him our of the air. President Belen Robles help in this effort by doing a letter on behalf of the National

Developed Public Service Announcement (PSA) for Voter Registration campaign with Maria Laria and Cristina Saralegui, this PSA were shown in Cuencavision during the summer three and four times a night

Council President during the summer developed with the help of Cablevision of Boston Channel 3 a PSA in English that was seeing on 14 Cable Station during 8 weeks in the summer

Participated in an Immigration Vigil with Centro Hispano de Chelsea to protest against proposed laws denying basic services to legal and illegal immigrants

Congressman Joe Kennedy II presented President Council a recognition of our work involving student internship (16 High School Seniors) where the City of Boston hired twenty students to work as part of our partnership in Naturalization and Voter Registration

We attended Council’s 12105 and 12106 fund-raiser for the ‘95 National Convention in San Juan and donated for their raffle two tickets for a dinner on the vessel Spirit of Boston

Our Council was represented at the National Convention in San Juan by four delegates and two alternates

Participated in submitting to LULAC’s National Assembly Convention 1995 a State Resolution that was as approved unanimously by all delegates to the Convention Council 12105 and 12106 where very helpful in this endeavor

Participated in Roberto Clemente Voter Registration Drive with our LULAC Youth

Represented LULAC in the 28th Festival Puertorriqueño de Massachusetts Parade by sponsoring a Blue Trolley sightseeing bus which carried fifty-two people and LULAC youth for the Naturalization and Voter Registration effort

Our Council President was invited to judge the Festival Dominicano Beauty Pageant and received a recognition for her efforts on their behalf

Boston Globe interviewed President Council Regla Gonzalez and Dr. Jose Vargas a member of our council on the Naturalization and Voter Registration effort as well of two of our youth workers

Participated with local Lions Club anniversary function

Met with First Hispanic Yellow Pages director to obtain a one full page free for a letter and picture with Council President 12113’s objectives to appear in the 1996 edition

Held a Pool Party at the Cambridge Howard Johnson Hotel in recognition of our LULAC youth for their work during they summer on the Naturalization and Voter Registration effort

Awards were presented to three of our Youth for their effort in the Naturalization Voter Registration effort by Mayor Thomas M. Menino also a $300.00 award toward their college expenses was awarded was to one of our students

Have joined in the effort of Miami Council Freedom Cuba to convince Massachusetts Congressman Moakley’s proposed trip to Cuba.
